The battle of the Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano consortia against imitations continues
Italian sounding: the battle of the Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano consortia against imitations continues.
Italian Sounding is the phenomenon that consists in the use of references and images that evoke Italy and some of its most famous typical products to promote the marketing of foods made abroad. According to an estimate by the Parmigiano Reggiano PDO Consortium, Italian Sounding has a turnover outside the European Union of about 2 billion euros: equal to 15 times the volume of Parmigiano Reggiano exported. A damage that, according to Nicola Bertinelli, president of the Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium and Renato Zaghini, President of the Grana Padano Consortium, can be stemmed by focusing above all on strong communication campaigns. It is in fact essential to promote the link with the territories and the quality guarantees offered by the PDO brand, transmitting to consumers living in distant markets the reasons why it is worth having the authentic product on the table.
